It is a qualitative test that can predict when there is a LH(luteinizing hormone) surge and in turn when you are likely to ovulate. The sensitivity range for detecting the LH surge on the David test strips is 25mIU/ml giving you time in advance to predict your ovulation day. Each test strip comes sealed in a protective foil pouch with moisture absorbent desiccant packet inside. Clear instructions are on the pouch. For more information and detailed instructions, a package insert is included in your order. These tests are FDA approved. By them in packs of 5, 10 or 15.

First you must determine the length of your menstrual cycle. This is the number of days from the first day of your period to the day before your next period begins again. Please refer to the chart above to determine when you should start testing. If your cycle is shorter than 21 days or longer than 38 days, consult your doctor. If you do not know your cycle length, you may begin the test 11 days after your first period since the average cycle length is 28 days. Perform 1 test each day over a 5 day period or until the LH surge has been detected.

  1. Do not use first morning urine samples as LH is synthesized in your body early in the morning. It will not show up in your urine until later in the day.
  2. The best time to collect your urine is between 10am-8pm.
  3. Collect urine at about the same time each day.
  4. Reduce liquid intake about 2 hours before collecting your urine as a diluted urine sample can prevent the test from detecting LH surge.

Some woman do not know if they ovulate regularly until they start charting and recording results. Get to know your body in order to improve your chances for conception. Ovulation test strips are especially helpful to assist woman who do not have regular cycles as it is so difficult to pinpoint when you will ovulate if your cycles are irregular. By testing from day 10-11 of your cycle each month and continuing as in the photo above, you will know exactly when your chances are the best for conceiving successfully. A positive ovulation test result will be confirmed with a test line as dark or darker than the control line(unlike a pregnancy test where even a feint test line confirms a positive result).

If you want to establish exactly when you ovulated, we recommend taking your basal body temperature (BBT) daily starting from the first day of your period all the way through until the end of your cycle. Charting your temperature daily will tell you the exact day you ovulated to predict your chances for conception on each individual cycle. Check out our basal body temperature digital thermometer which has been specifically designed for temperature charting when trying to conceive as it provides temperature readings to 1/100th of a degree, for example 37.42 instead of normal thermometers which will only read 37. 4. Our BBT comes with a temperature chart that you can use to start charting!

If you need more information regarding your cycle and learning more about ovulation and trying to conceive by charting temperature and using ovulation tests, we highly recommend one of our other products, the book `Taking Charge Of Your Fertility` by Toni Weschler.
